Lake Creek Trail

Route Overview

The Lake Creek Trail climbs through dense spruce-fir forest to a series of alpine lakes in the White Mountains. The lakes are nestled in a glacial cirque surrounded by forested peaks - a rare alpine environment in Arizona. The trail follows Lake Creek through a lush riparian corridor before reaching the lakes at the head of the drainage.

The lakes are popular for fishing (stocked with trout) and backpacking. The area receives significant summer monsoon moisture, making it lush and green from July through September. Fall brings golden aspens to the surrounding slopes. The trail is well-maintained and moderately graded.

Permits & Regulations

Permit Required: No for hiking. Arizona fishing license required if fishing. Dispersed camping allowed following Apache-Sitgreaves NF regulations. Camp at least 200 feet from the lakes. The area is popular - arrive early for campsites on weekends.
