Pine Creek Trail

Route Overview

Pine Creek Trail follows a lush riparian canyon through the Mazatzal Wilderness - one of the few trails in the range with reliable year-round water. The canyon is lined with pine, sycamore, and cottonwood trees, creating a shaded corridor that contrasts sharply with the surrounding desert landscape. The trail passes through a series of pools and small cascades where Pine Creek flows over volcanic rock.

The trail is well-maintained and moderately graded, suitable for day hiking or as part of a longer backpack. It connects with other trails in the Mazatzal system for extended loop routes. The riparian corridor supports diverse wildlife including deer, turkey, and numerous bird species.

Permits & Regulations

Permit Required: No. No permits required for day use. Dispersed camping allowed - camp at least 200 feet from the creek. Water is available from Pine Creek (filter before drinking). Check fire restrictions before your trip.
